This project involves the renovation and transformation of an old stone building in the center of Volos, which was converted into a hospitality space with six semi-stay rooms on the upper floor. The design focused primarily on two of these rooms, as the rest follow a similar layout.
The building’s strong architectural identity, with its stone exterior shell, led to a classic design approach, where color interventions and custom-built elements introduce a fresh, contemporary feel.
Key features such as the herringbone wooden flooring, high ceilings, decorative plaster moldings on the ceilings and walls, and the tall, elegant openings on the façade were preserved and highlighted, reinforcing the classic atmosphere of the space.
Building upon this foundation, modern design choices shape a new aesthetic identity. Velvet textiles on sofas and beds, minimal geometric side tables and nightstands, and metal structures combining lighting, hangers, and mirrors create a composition with distinct character. The use of hidden lighting in the ceiling and the bold choice of a colored ceiling extending onto the walls add depth and cohesion to the space.
Although the bathrooms differ slightly from room to room, they were designed with a clear, structured geometry, following a monochromatic palette and featuring minimal furnishings, ensuring seamless integration with the overall aesthetic.
The final result is a harmonious blend of classical and contemporary elements, respecting the architectural heritage of the building while incorporating modern touches that refresh its identity.
